People more familiar with the WHS collections may recognize this real photo post card, but it is new to me. I wonder if repairs to the railroad tracks were being made and everyone had to get transfer to buses when they reached Wenonah? If you know what was going on in the photo from what I estimate to be the 1940s please share your information. The card is currently available on ebay.

Yes, '40s- Washout of the Wenonah Trestle. Tracks were left literally hanging in the air. Buses had to take you down the line.

Bob ThomasThanks for the info. Does the WHS have this postcard?

Larry Smith
Bob Thomas I don't see it on on the inventory logs, but I believe there are post cards that have not yet been inventoried. I'd be surprised if we did not have a copy.

Bob Thomas
The starting bid is almost $40

Larry Smith
Not worth it.

Bob Thomas I found this postcard in the Museum this afternoon.

Jean Maurie Puhlman
Oh wow, I didn't know any of this.

Kimberly Manzo D'Anella
Plus originally the tracks were down Jefferson .

Yes you can see the original route of the railroad and the current route on this map. http://wenonahhistoricalsociety.org/Wenonah-1770-1870-map

I had no idea that this occurred. Interesting.

Can anyone make out what's written on the truck?

Bob Thomas
Author Looks like "Arthur Parvin" to me.

Bob Thomas
Author According to WWII draft cards there was an Arthur Parvin who was self-employed in a trucking business in Penns Grove, NJ in 1942.

Dan N Karen Cooper
That's one pricey postcard!

Source Unknown. This may possibly be due to the '44 Hurricane

Jeff Wentzell Saw a number of postcards concerning Wenonah, and a calendar from my grandfather's store. It too was rather pricey.
